On Stage with Sterling Elza: 360° at The Senate, Columbia SC

On Stage with Sterling Elza: 360° at The Senate, Columbia SC

There's a moment right before a band kicks into the next song where the room holds its breath. You feel it in your chest before you hear anything - the low hum of the monitors, the crowd settling back into itself, the guitarist finding his position. Standing on that stage at The Senate on April 18th, I wasn't watching that moment from the floor. I was inside it.

That's a different thing entirely.

Who Is Sterling Elza?

If you haven't heard the name yet, you will. Sterling Elza is 22 years old, from Amarillo, Texas, and grew up in a musical family with a guitar in his hands by age five. His debut album Simpler Days dropped in 2024 and crossed 130 million streams, landing in Apple Music's Top 25 Rock Albums. He's now based in New Braunfels, TX, touring with a tight five-piece band that sounds like they've been playing together for a decade.

How We Got Here

This one actually starts on Instagram.

Nathan Hanna, who plays in Sterling's band, found us after reposting our viral car launch video. He slid into the DMs and asked if anyone wanted to go to Alaska. I shot back something like "yeah, I'll take you" - half joking, fully meaning it - and what started as a random internet moment turned into a real conversation. We started talking, found out we shared a faith as Christians, and somewhere in that exchange, a genuine friendship formed.

By the time the Bag of Bones Tour rolled into Columbia, it wasn't just a show we were going to. Nathan had made sure we were part of it. Backstage, on stage, in the middle of the whole thing. And after a night like that, I can honestly say I felt that same connection with the entire band. Some nights just go like that.

The Sound

If you need a reference point: imagine Koe Wetzel and Warren Zeiders, but with the raw arena rock muscle of Nickelback at their peak. Red Dirt country storytelling layered over post-grunge guitar work and pop-punk urgency. Loud and cathartic in the best way. Emotionally raw without being soft about it.

One critic put it plainly: "The red dirt scene is about to act up again, and Sterling Elza is here to lead that charge."

Standing on that stage, watching the crowd react in real time, I believed it.

The Bag of Bones Tour

The Bag of Bones EP dropped March 5, 2026, on Santa Anna Nashville. Five tracks, produced by Andrew Baylis, who's worked with Jelly Roll, Koe Wetzel, and Brantley Gilbert. The lead single "Pick Your Reason" hit #1 on the Apple Music Rock video chart and landed on Spotify's All New Country and Gravel playlists.

The Columbia stop was a co-headline run with Dexter and the Moonrocks at The Senate, a 1,200-capacity room in the Vista District. Intimate enough that you feel every song land, big enough that the energy is real and loud and collective. April 18th, that room was locked in.

We captured the whole night in 360° from up on stage - and the full video is live on our YouTube channel right now.

Why Lucid Reality Was There

The same thing that makes someone strap into a bull rope or line up on a starting grid is the same thing that makes a 22-year-old go all-in on a guitar and bet everything on it. It's a specific kind of commitment where you stop hedging and just go. Limitless is limitless, regardless of the arena. That's the world Lucid Reality lives in, and Sterling Elza belongs in that conversation.

Sterling's energy on stage is the same energy we built the Lightning Bolt Tee around — bold, electric, made for people whose volume gets turned up by default.
