Eight Seconds and a Blessing: Hank “The Yank” Kellogg Dominates the Permian Basin Military Rodeo

Some athletes compete for rankings. Some compete for money. And some compete because the sport chose them — because walking away was never an option. Hank “The Yank” Kellogg is the third kind. And this past weekend at the Permian Basin Military Rodeo, he reminded everyone exactly what that looks like.

The Ride

When the gate swung open, Hank had eight seconds.

Eight seconds is the entire rest of bull riding. It's the difference between glory and ground. Hank got there — clean, controlled, dominant — and he was the only rider that day who did.

He took home all the money in the pot.

In bull riding, covering your bull when no one else can is the purest form of winning. It's not just about the score — it's about being the last man standing when the dust settles. That's exactly what Hank did.

Where He Stands

That win wasn't just a moment — it moved the needle in a big way. Hank is now sitting number one in bull riding in the PAFRA standings for the 2026 season, and number one in bull riding in the FDREC standings for the 2026 season. Two circuits. One name at the top of both.

The 2026 season is still unfolding, and Hank is already setting the tone.

More Than an Athlete

What makes Hank's story resonate beyond the arena is who he is outside of it. A disabled veteran, Hank carries the discipline, grit, and selfless commitment of military service into everything he does — including the way he competes. The Permian Basin Military Rodeo wasn't just a fitting venue. It was a homecoming of sorts. A place where the values he's lived by — service, sacrifice, perseverance — are woven into the fabric of the event itself.

And when it was over, his first words weren't about the ranking or the payout.

They were: “All the glory to the good lord above.”

That's Hank.
