Eight Seconds and a Blessing: Hank “The Yank” Kellogg Dominates the Permian Basin Military Rodeo

Some guys ride for points. Some ride for the check. Hank "The Yank" Kellogg rides because the sport got ahold of him a long time ago and never let go. This past weekend at the Permian Basin Military Rodeo, he showed everybody what that looks like.

The Ride

The gate swung open and Hank had eight seconds to do his job.

In bull riding, eight seconds is the whole thing. You cover your bull or you hit the dirt. Hank covered his, clean and in control, and he was the only rider all day who got it done.

He took home the whole pot.

Covering your bull when nobody else can is the purest way to win in this sport. It isn't about the number on the board. It's about being the last one standing when the dust settles, and that was Hank.

Where He Stands

That ride did a lot more than win a night. Hank now sits number one in bull riding in the PAFRA standings for the 2026 season, and number one in bull riding in the FDREC standings for the 2026 season. Two circuits, his name at the top of both.

The season's still young, and he's already setting the pace.

More Than an Athlete

What makes Hank's story land is who he is when he's off the bull. He's a disabled veteran, and he carries the discipline and grit of military service into the way he competes. The Permian Basin Military Rodeo was the right place for it. Service, sacrifice, and showing up are built into that event, and they're built into him.

When it was over, the first thing out of his mouth wasn't the ranking or the money.

It was, "All the glory to the good lord above."

That's Hank.
